Manhattan Beach Fire Fighters Battle Springs Fire

A fire engine and battalion chief from Manhattan Beach are assisting with the fire fight.

Manhattan Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Ken Shuck has been leading a 5-engine strike team in the battle against the Springs Fire.

Shuck told Fire Chief Robert Espinosa his team worked on structure protection overnight with a dozer in the Newbury Park area. The last report said he and his team were returning to the base camp near Camarillo airport for rest and reassignment.

The city's new Fire Engine 22 is being used in the effort.

Shuck and 5 fire engines were deployed from El Segundo around 12:30 a.m. in response to a request from Los Angeles County, according to Espinosa.
