Manhattan Beach Police Help Evacuate LAX Terminal

Manhattan Beach police officers clear and evacuate the terminal where the shooting took place.

Four Manhattan Beach police officers responded to the shooting at Los Angeles International Airport Friday morning.

Sgt. Steve Kitsios and three patrol units "helped clear and evacuate terminal 3," the terminal in which the a TSA agent was killed and others wounded by a lone gunman.

Kitsios said the Manhattan Beach units were dispatched at 9:42 a.m. under a mutual aid agreement. He returned to Manhattan Beach around 2:07 p.m.

"All officers involved were trying to control the chaos that was occurring," he said. Officers from Hermosa Beach, El Segundo and Hawthorne police departments responded, too, he said.

"When there's a big incident and a request is given, you send up to 50 percent of your force," said Kitsios. One Manhattan Beach patrol unit returned to the city shortly after arriving at LAX in the morning.

"It's really great to see all the law enforcement working well together," said Kitsios, who said Homeland Security and FBI was also involved at the scene.
