Update: Manhattan Beach Man Pleads Not Guilty to Petty Theft

The district attorney's office charges him with a misdemeanor.

Updated: April 25 A Manhattan Beach resident who turned himself in to police Monday and was then arrested on suspicion of felony robbery, according to Stephanie Martin, Manhattan Beach Police Department public information and crime prevention officer, pleaded not guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor petty theft in a Torrance courtroom Tuesday, said Shiara Davila-Morales, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office. Police said that Jonathan Mathosian, 43, stole a hard drive from the Fry's Electronics store shortly before 5 p.m. Monday. When approached by Fry's staff in the store's parking lot, the confrontation "escalated" and he allegedly "began to fight with staff," Martin said. Mathosian then "took off."  Mathosian is due in court May 24 for a pretrial hearing, said Davila-Morales.
