One Fatality in Aviation Blvd. Traffic Collision

Two-vehicle collision injures two, kills one.

A 62-year-old man was killed as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday night, said police.

The collision closed a stretch of Aviation Boulevard between Artesia and Manhattan Beach boulevards while Redondo Beach police investigated the incident, which happened on their side of the street.

The fatality, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, said Frank Chiella, battalion chief for the Manhattan beach Fire Department. The man's name is being withheld pending next of kin notification, said police. A Manhattan Beach rescue unit transported the victim to the hospital.

The driver of that vehicle was transported to the Harbor UCLA Medical Center by a Hermosa Beach Fire Department rescue unit and was reported to have sustained moderate to minor injuries, Chiella said.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported in a McCormick ambulance to Little Co. of Mary Hospital and reported to have sustained minor injuries.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or who may have witnessed the collision should contact Redondo Beach Police Department Investigator Bill Turner at (310) 379-2477, ext. 2721 or via email sent to Bill.Turner@Redondo.org.
