Package Stolen From Porch; Police Provide Tips for Package Safety

Package thieves are busy during the holiday season.

A FedEx package on a porch was stolen on Tuesday, Dec. 3 between noon and 6 p.m. in the 3000 block of Elm Ave, according to a police report.

With the Christmas holiday approaching, the Manhattan Beach Police Department offers the following tips to protect your packages:

  • Track your packages online to have a better idea of when they are scheduled for delivery.
  • Do not leave packages out for a lengthy amount of time; pick them up as soon as possible.
  • Consider requesting delivery with a signature to ensure the package is not left on the porch.
  • Consider having packages delivered to your PO Box, a local distribution center or place of work.
  • If a package is left at the doorstep and you’re not available to retrieve it, have a neighbor, friend or family member go to your home and pick up the package.
Last year, five package thefts were reported in Manhattan Beach between Dec. 5 and 18.

Last month on Nov. 13, a thief stole a package from the front porch of a home in the 1400 block of Fifth Street around 3:20 p.m., and then returned the item to Target for a gift card, according to a police report.
