Pier One Robbers Get Prison Time

The two men attempted an armed robbery of the business on a Sunday night, prompting SWAT and crisis negotiators to the scene.

The two men arrested for an armed robbery attempt at Pier One Imports last April were sentenced in a Torrance courtoom on April 23.

Edwin Rico Clark Davis, 26, and DeAngelo Deonta Cal, 23, of Hawthorne were sentenced to 9 and 6 years in state prison, respectively, by a South West Judicial District-Torrance Branch judge, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

The men entered Pier One Imports on April 22, 2012, armed with a handgun and a knife and demanded money from the safe and cash registers around 7 p.m., according to a press release.

SWAT teams from the Manhattan Beach and Gardena police departments surrounded the business, and crisis negotiators were ultimately successful in getting the suspects to surrender.

No one was injured during the incident.
