Manhattan Beach police say they have arrested a man they believe is responsible for five residential burglaries in the city.

On Thursday, police arrested Christian Andrew Murphy, 22, of Gardena, on suspicion of burglarizing a home in the 400 block of 21st Street earlier in the day.

According to a Manhattan Beach Police Department press release, Murphy allegedly entered the victims’ unlocked house as the family slept. Stolen were some electronic equipment and a car, which was abandoned a few blocks away.

“Detectives tracked Murphy throughout Los Angeles and ultimately to a hotel in Gardena where he was living,” Sgt. Paul Ford said in a statement. “A subsequent search of the hotel room revealed additional property from at least two other Manhattan Beach victims.”

Upon further investigation, detectives now believe Murphy is responsible for at least five burglaries, including the theft of one car, that occurred in April and May.

Murphy’s bail is set at $150,000 and he will appear at South Bay Court in the City of Torrance on June 2.

Last night someone called 911 next to my house on 11th & Laurel. The fire department and ambulance eventually left- but, several MB police cars stayed at the house for over an hour. Does anyone have any information on this? I thought maybe it could have been a robbery- but, I'm not sure. It very well could have been a domestic dispute or something along those lines.
