Police: We Arrested the Man Behind Series of Burglaries in Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach police say they have arrested a man they believe is responsible for five residential burglaries in the city.

On Thursday, police arrested Christian Andrew Murphy, 22, of Gardena, on suspicion of burglarizing a home in the 400 block of 21st Street earlier in the day.

According to a Manhattan Beach Police Department press release, Murphy allegedly entered the victims’ unlocked house as the family slept. Stolen were some electronic equipment and a car, which was abandoned a few blocks away.

“Detectives tracked Murphy throughout Los Angeles and ultimately to a hotel in Gardena where he was living,” Sgt. Paul Ford said in a statement. “A subsequent search of the hotel room revealed additional property from at least two other Manhattan Beach victims.”

Upon further investigation, detectives now believe Murphy is responsible for at least five burglaries, including the theft of one car, that occurred in April and May.

Murphy’s bail is set at $150,000 and he will appear at South Bay Court in the City of Torrance on June 2.
