About one week and seven hours after the crime took place, an inter-agency team has captured the suspect wanted for the alleged attempted murder of an employee at and robbery of the Cigar and Smoke Shop on Thursday, Aug. 16.
Tyler Rodgers was taken into custody by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's surveillance team Thursday around 11:30 p.m., said Detective Michael Rosenberger of the Manhattan Beach Police Department, the city in which the crime occurred.
Rodgers was found in the 7200 block of Crenshaw Boulevard hiding with a 16-year-old female runaway who had been reported missing. She was returned to her place of residence, said Rosenberger.
Rosenberger said the primary charges expected to be filed against Rodgers are attempted murder and robbery. Rodgers is in MBPD custody and will be transported to court Tuesday for an arraignment.
The store employee whose throat was slashed during the robbery is out of the hospital and mending, said Rosenberger.
Wednesday, MBPD and Gardena SWAT each served a search warrant at Rodgers' known residence and another location. Rosenberger told Patch Wednesday that evidence was recovered during the execution of the search warrants.
Rosenberger said the sheriff's had offered to help find Rodgers, providing 9 to 10 deputies for the search. Additionally assistance came from the L.A. County Probation Department and the Department of Children and Family Services.
