Taxi Driver Accused of Sexual Assault

The South Bay cabbie is said to have inappropriately touched female passengers. Police are looking for other victims.

Police are looking for women who may have been the victim of a male taxi driver that detectives from the Manhattan Beach Police Department arrested on suspicion of sexual assault Nov. 21.

The man, a Torrance resident, is believed to have inappropriately touched at least two women, said MBPD Detective Mike Rosenberger. "I've got a suspicion there may be other victims," he said.

Rosenberger said the man was investigated in 2010 under a similar circumstance; however, the district attorney's office did not file a case due to insufficient evidence.

"I'm hoping that once this (information) gets out, I'll get more victims who come forward," he said.

MBPD arrested the man based on an Aug. 19 incident that took place near Second Street and Meadows Avenue in Manhattan Beach. The woman did not report the crime but decided to do so after seeing a news report of a similar offense that happened in Redondo Beach.

MBPD, which is working with the Redondo Beach Police Department on the case, is not releasing the suspect’s photograph or name so that potential victims and witnesses can provide objective information.

The man posted bond when arrested and is due in court "sometime in January," said Rosenberger.

Rosenberger can be reached at 310-802-5127.
