Three Injured in Weekend Car Crash
The motorists suffer injuries when a delivery truck slams into a pole after colliding with a car.
One man was seriously hurt and two others sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning at Dianthus Street and Manhattan Beach Boulevard, Interim Fire Chief Ken Shuck said.
At 9:26 a.m. Manhattan Beach police and firefighters responded to the accident with help from the Redondo Beach Fire Department, which provided a ladder fire truck and additional manpower.
A delivery truck had careened into a pole at the intersection's ARCO gas station after colliding with a car, Shuck said.
A passenger in the truck was trapped beneath the dashboard. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools, so-called Jaws of Life, to pry apart the metal and remove him.
Paramedics transported the man to the trauma center at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance. Two other men involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals, Shuck said.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department lent a fire engine for the Manhattan Beach fire station's Open House as a replacement while the city's firefighters attended to the victims.
