Unlocked, Unsecured Property Crimes in Manhattan Beach

Crimes of ease happen in all areas of Manhattan Beach, according to police reports.

Unlocked, unsecured, left slightly open. Recent crime reports in Manhattan Beach use these terms to describe how crooks have gained entry into homes and vehicles that are not theirs.

On May 6th between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Faymont Ave., an unknown suspect(s) entered the residence through a rear bathroom window that had been left slightly open. The master bedroom was ransacked and a watch, shoes, laptops, gloves and and took two pillowcases, most likely to haul the loot away, reported stolen.

Sometime between 8 p.m. on May 5th and 8 a.m. on May 6th in the 400 block of 30th St., an unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and ransacked the interior. No loss appears to have taken place, as of when the report was filed.

However, sometime between May 5th at 1 p.m. and May 6th at 5:50 a.m. in the 400 block of 30th St., an unknown suspect(s) stole two packs of white T-shirts from an an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway.

Then, sometime between 2 p.m. May 5th and 8 a.m. May 6th in the 2600 block of N. Alma Ave., an unknown suspect(s) stole coins, currency and and iPod from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway.

In the 3600 block of The Strand sometime between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. on May 3rd, an unknown suspect(s) entered an attached garage that had been left open and then accessed a car in it whose doors were unlocked and the car keys left on the front passenger seat. The next day, the victim found the car with with its doors locked, the garage door closed and an iPod, car keys and garage door opener missing.

In another Sand Section incident, in the 100 block of El Porto St. sometime between 4 p.m. on May 2nd and 5:15 a.m. on May 3rd, an unknown suspect(s) stole a watch and 15 work keys from an unlocked vehicle parked inside a garage. 

An unsecured underground garage was the site of another theft, this one occurring sometime between 10 p.m. on April 28th and 8:30 a.m. April 29th in the 200 block of Aviation Place. An iPod, garage opener and miscellaneous items were stolen from a vehicle with no sign of forced entry.

In the same location, the 200 block of Aviation Place, beginning at 10 p.m. on April 28th and ending at 7 a.m. on April 29th, a wallet and shirt were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in an unsecured underground parking lot.

In the 1100 block of 23rd St. sometime between 6:30 p.m. on April 27th and 7:40 a.m. April 28th, an unknown suspect(s) rummaged through an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway and stole clothes, glasses and miscellaneous items.

On April 27th in the 1700 block of Marine Ave. between 5:30 and 10 p.m., an unknown suspect(s) removed an exterior window screen and entered the home through an unlocked bedroom window, stealing computers, iPods, jewelry and other items.

On April 13th in the 2400 block of N. Alma Ave. around 4:45 a.m., an unknown suspect(s) entered the unlocked vehicle parked at the location, stealing the garage door opener and miscellaneous items.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department offers a “Lock it or Lose it” crime prevention campaign that advises citizens to take a few extra moments to secure personal property to reduce the opportunity for property-related crimes (thefts and vehicle burglary) to occur.
