MBPD News: DUIs, Thefts, Burglaries

Residents and visitors to Manhattan Beach need to lock and secure their valuables and not leave them in plain sight, says Officer Stephanie Martin. Officers arrest DUI drivers.

During the weekend, Manhattan Beach Police made four arrests for driving under the influence and one for public intoxication, according to the department.

MBPD also took reports for three vehicle burglaries, two vehicle thefts and a garage burglary that happened between 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6 and  8 a.m. on Thursday, March 8.

"Our residential crimes would be reduced by 80% if people took the time to lock  and secure their vehicles and remove valuables from plain view," said Stephanie Martin, MBPD public information officer.

In all three vehicle burglaries, rear passenger windows were broken. One vehicle was reported parked in a driveway and had a computer, power cord, bag and computer mouse stolen. Another was parked on the street and had two laptop computers, a computer bag and portable hard drive stolen. In the other burglary, a purse that contained prescription drugs and make-up was taken.

The thefts involved two different vehicles parked in front of the person's residence that were left unlocked. In both cases, gift cards were stolen. A console was ransacked and sunglasses missing, too.
