Candidates Cast Their Votes: Amy Howorth

It's Election Day, and the City Council candidates are getting out to cast their votes.

Amy Howorth arrived to cast her ballot at the Manhattan Beach Public Library around 11:30 a.m.

"I love how official today is. The pen and paper," she said as she turned in her form to cast her vote. Howorth waited patiently, smiling and saying hello to other voters who all seemed to know her. Of course, any words of encouragement were held for another time; it is against the law to publicly encourage a candidate while at a polling place.

Many local patrons showed up at the library expecting story time, which was cancelled because of voting, but it was an opportunity for plenty of youngsters to understand the meaning of "Election Day."

The library is one of the many polling places across the city which will be open until 8 p.m. tonight to accept ballots.
