City Plans to Create Better Access from The Strand to the Sand

Stairs are being removed and replaced or rehabilitated, and the city will add two new wheelchair ramps.

Get ready for improvements to access the sand from The Strand.

The City of Manhattan Beach, which has secured federal funds to enhance access from The Strand pedestrian path to the Marvin Braude Bike Path, according to the city's website, plans to remove and replace stairs at 21st, 25th, 29th, 30th, 32nd, 33rd and 35th Streets, as well as rehabilitate stairs and balusters at 8th, 10th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 23rd, 24th, 26th, 31st and 34th Streets, and Marine and Rosecrans avenues.

The project also calls for the installation of two new wheelchair ramps leading from The Strand to the bike path immediately south of Marine Avenue and 26th Street.

The city's Public Works Department has held two public meetings; one on Jan. 10 and one last night, soliciting public input and discussing the planned improvements, according to the city's website.
