Expected Rain Postpones Events

With a good downpouring of rain expected in the Southland, many events scheduled for Saturday, March 17 have been postponed.

Outdoor activities in the area have been postponed due to concerns about rain on Saturday.

In Manhattan Beach, bodyboarding, surfing, beach volleyball and a campus spruce up have been postponed. In Hermosa Beach, the highly anticipated annual St. Patrick's Day Parade has also been postponed.

The Hermosa Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held Saturday, March 24, according to the city's Chamber of Commerce.

"Safety concerns are the biggest factor in our decision to reschedule the parade," Chamber Executive Director Maureen Hunt said in a statement.

The Mira Costa marching band, MB City Council members and other MBers typically participate in the HB parade.

Mira Costa Pride Day has also been moved to Saturday, March 24. Pride Day is an annual spring cleaning of sorts, according to the school's front office, in which students and parents bring brooms, rakes, shovels and the like to clean the nooks and crannies that often go overlooked. They also plant donated plants.

Volleyball Ventures' Shenanigans tournament has been postponed until Saturday, March 24 due to the weather forecast. The tournament offers several co-ed player formats and encourages the wearing of green and costumes.

As for two water events previously set for Saturday, March 17, the South Bay Boardriders have rescheduled their daylong competition for Saturday, March 31, as has the Bodyboarder International Association. The BIA offers competition in Youth (14-), Juniors, Men's, Masters (30+), AA, AAA, Drop Knee, Women, Pro Open and Pro Drop Knee.
