Allowing Alcohol on Beach for Centennial Comes Before City Council

The city's centennial committee wants to hold a celebration on the beach that includes alcohol. To do so requires working around city prohibitions. Let City Council know your thoughts: Should alcohol be consumed on the beach during the gala?

Manhattan Beach residents and others who want to weigh in on whether or not the city should allow alcohol to be consumed at the city's centennial beach gala in September should voice their opinions at the Tuesday, April 17 City Council meeting and/or lobby Council members before then.

The centennial committee wants to hold a beach ball on the beach near the Manhattan Beach Pier and have alcohol for consumption during the gala.

Doing so requires Los Angeles County's approval as well as getting around city ordinances banning alcohol on the beach.

Ways to allow alcohol on the beach for the centennial celebration have been under research by the city attorney and now the work around is coming before City Council for their voice.

City council members are Mayor Nicholas Tell, Jr., Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Powell and council members Richard Montgomery, David Lesser and Amy Howorth
