Free Art Exhibit Opens Friday

Artwork from more than 40 exhibitors will debut at an opening reception; some will receive awards.

Mixed media artwork from more than 40 Manhattan Beach residents and students ages 55 and older will be on display beginning Friday at the Creative Arts Center, 1560 Manhattan Beach Boulevard.

The 3rd annual Manhattan Beach Older Adults Art Show opens with a free reception from 4-6 p.m. Awards will be presented beginning at 4:45 p.m.

The exhibition theme is "Memory," in recognition of the city's 100th anniversary.

“What better group of artists to showcase during the celebration of the city’s centennial year than Manhattan Beach’s older adults?" said Mayor Wayne Powell in a press release. "The city is very proud to bring this exhibition to the Manhattan Beach Creative Arts Center for the third year.”

Presented by the Cultural Arts Division of the Parks & Recreation Department, the exhibition includes work by students from MB Parks & Rec classes as well as residents.

Gallery hours for the exhibit are Tuesday and Thursday, 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. through Sept. 20. Admission is free.
