Long Beach Man Succumbs to Flu

Health officials advise the public to get the flu vaccine.

Long Beach health officials confirmed Wednesday the city's first influenza death of the 2013-14 flu season.

The victim was a 41-year-old man with underlying health problems, according to the city. The man was briefly hospitalized before his death.

"There is still time to receive a flu vaccine, which includes coverage for the pandemic H1N1 strain, which is currently the predominant strain of influenza circulating in our region this season," according to Mitchell Kushner, the city's health officer.
