Mark Leyman Promoted to Parks & Rec Director

The former Manhattan Beach recreation services manager has worked for the city since 2000.

Mark Leyman was named the new director of the city's Parks and Recreation Department this morning, replacing long-time staffer Richard Gill, whose retirement was effective May 10, according to the city.

Leyman brings 19 years of experience in municipal government recreation departments, including 13 years with Manhattan Beach, said David Carmany, city manager. He most recently served as recreation services manager, overseeing a $1.5-million sports, fitness and aquatics budget while creating and maintaining numerous high-profile events, including the Charlie Saikley Six Man Beach Volleyball tournament and vendor partnerships.

Carmany said he is confident Leyman will do an excellent job in his new position.
