More Votes Cast for Wayne Powell than Tim Lilligren

The two were not running for the same elected office, so this isn't an apples to apples comparison. Still, it is interesting.

Editor's Note: A correction has been made to reflect the final vote tally. I went from what I believed was the final tally but indeed was incorrect. The tally I used was from March 5, 10:35 p.m., election night. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Running unopposed, City Treasurer Tim Lilligren took 3,903 votes for re-election in the March 5 election.

Curiously enough, incumbent City Council candidate Wayne Powell, who ran against 5 competitors for 3 available seats, garnered 3,986 votes, besting Lilligren by 83 votes.

Hmm, go figure. Someone running unopposed gets fewer votes than a candidate running in a competitive field.
