Power Remains Out to 35 SCE Customers in Manhattan Beach

SCE continues to work to bring power back to all customers in Manhattan Beach.

Power has been restored to all but 35 Manhattan Beach Southern California Edison customers, according to the utility's power outage website page, and all traffic signals are working properly, said Sgt. Chris Vargas of the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

The 9:03 a.m. outage impacted 2,308 customers and traffic signals throughout the city, most notably the one at Sepulveda and Manhattan Beach boulevards. City parking staff was sent to man signals that went dark. By 11:15 a.m., 1,756 customers remained without power, said SCE spokesman Robert Villegas.

Vargas said all signals were operational by noon.

The SCE power outage map lists equipment problems as the cause of the outage and predicts a restoration time of 9 p.m. for customers who are still without power.

Villegas said the cause of the outage was an underground cable on the northeast corner of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Pine Avenue.

Reader Seth Rementer correctly figured out where the problem originated as stated in his comment on the previous related article.

"I heard, and felt, two loud explosions at the time the power went out. The force was strong enough to shake the pavement and set off several car alarms. The source seemed to be underground, in the vicinity of the Verizon building on MBB and Pine Ave."
