Pumpkin Race a Fun Spectacle
Decked-out pumpkins race down Manhattan Beach Boulevard in the wacky annual World Famous Pumpkin Race.
Manhattan Beach once again rolled out its highly entertaining Halloween tradition of pitting race pumpkin against race pumpkin. About 700 participants duked it out Sunday at the 21st annual World Famous Pumpkin Race. Darth Vader, Nemo and a royal carriage were some of the many colorful pumpkin themes in the six-hour long contest.
"Everybody comes here with a pumpkin, a couple of axles and a couple of wheels, hopes and dreams, creativity, innovation," said race president Karl Rogers. "It's all here."
Along with the championship trophy, prizes were awarded for Best Team Spirit, Best of Show and Best Crash.
