Residents Favor Current Waste Hauler
A new waste hauling contract is atop City Council's agenda tonight, but many locals are partial to current provider, Waste Management, Inc.
When in doubt, stick with the familiar.
Manhattan Beach residents seem to favor 25-year service provider, Waste Management, to receive the city's new 7-year waste hauling contract, they told Patch Tuesday morning.
City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. today to decide which hauler will get the new contract. Waste Management, Crown Disposal and Athens Services are vying to win the trash contract, although city staff has recommended Crown Disposal based on its 70 percent landfill diversion rate -- way above the city's minimum requirement of 44 percent.

A number of residents, though, say choosing a new hauler is unnecessary when current provider Waste Management already gets the job done.
"They put the trash cans back where they're supposed to be," said resident Ellie Pickard. "I just have no complaints at all."
