Sharks Devour the Competition

Manhattan Beach honors District 36 champs for their outstanding Little League season.

This season, the Sharks devoured the competition, every time but once.

But that one loss to the Chili Peppers sparked the Manhattan Beach Little League International division team to fight its way out of the loser's bracket in regular season play, beating the Peppers two times when it counted to claim first place in league in a double-elimination contest.

Coached by Greg Medroth (back row, fifth from left in blue Sharks hat), the team then won the District 36 Tournament of Champions, beating local top finishers from other little leagues.

The city honored the Sharks for their achievement at the Sept. 6 Manhattan Beach City Council meeting.

Mayor Nick Tell "was extremely gracious and proud of the boys," said an observer, "mentioning that his son Nick Tell was on the team."

Word has it that Nick, Jr., is a very good baseball player.
