Six Residents Pull Papers to Run for City Council

Some new names enter the political arena this time around. To be an official candidate, each must submit the paperwork they've pulled and be confirmed as eligible by the county.

Six Manhattan Beach residents pulled papers to run for three available City Council seats on Tuesday, the first day they could do so. To finalize their candidacy, each must submit the completed paperwork by Friday, Dec. 7, 5 p.m. and be confirmed by Los Angeles County.

According to the city website, the six potential City Council candidates are current Mayor Wayne Powell, Tony D'Errico, Mark Lipps, previous City Councilman Mitch Ward, Martha Andreani and Kathleen Paralusz.

Powell will complete his four-year term in March; D'Errico, owner of Bella Beach and Bella Beach Kids, is involved in The Downtown MB Business & Professionals Association; Lipps is a Leadership Manhattan Beach Class of 2012 graduate and entertainment executive whose wife Tammy owns and operates The Ripe Choice catering and retail kitchen in MB; Ward is a former eight-year council member who was "termed out" in 2011 and can now run again, and Andreani and Paralusz are planning commissioners on the city planning commission. Paralusz ran for city council in the 2010-2011 race against Viet Ngo, David Lesser and Amy Howorth. Howorth and Lesser won that election and currently serve on city council.
