Voters Scarce in Special Election
Patch talks to South Bay residents about whether they voted in the primary election to fill the vacant 36th Congressional District seat.
Voters trickled into local polling places Tuesday for the 36th Congressional District election. As with previous , turnout was low.
As Patch asked South Bay residents whether they voted, many expressed a lack of interest in local elections, while others, such as Manhattan Beach resident Shannon Foley, stressed the importance of voting.
"I am voting today," Foley, "and I think it's important to vote..."

The special election has 16 candidates vying to fill the vacancy left by former Rep. Jane Harman. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff election will be held July 12 between two candidates with the highest number of votes.
