Where to Vote in Special Election?

There are at least 11 polling places in Manhattan Beach.

Manhattan Beach residents will be able to cast their votes in a special election for the 28th State Senate District seat at 11 local polling places Tuesday.

There are  left vacant by state Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who died Oct. 20 from complications of an abdominal blood clot and was posthumously re-elected in November.

About 467,493 voters had registered to vote by the end of January, according to the county Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office. Starting at 7 a.m., voters in Manhattan Beach can visit the following polling places:

1. A residential garage at 301 Homer st.   
2. Journey of Faith at 1243 Artesia Blvd.
3. The 578th Engineer Battalion at 3601 Bell Ave.   
4. American Martyres Church at 1400 Deegan Pl.   
5. Manhattan Beach Library at 1320 Highland Ave.
6. A residential garage at 312 S. Poinsettia Ave.   
7. Power Karate at 1730 N. Sepulveda Blvd.
8. Manhattan Beach Unified School District at 325 S. Peck Ave.
9. Beach Cities Masionic Center at 1535 Artesia Blvd.
10. Cornerstone Church at 300 N. Redondo Ave.
11. Adventure Plex at Marine, 1701 Marine Ave.

This special election and a similar election for the state Senate's 17th District are the first under the provisions of the open primary law Proposition 14, which voters passed in June that went into effect Jan. 1.

Under the new measure, if no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary (or, in this case, the special election), then the top two finishers will face each other in an April 19 general election, even if they are from the same party.
