Winners Named at Art Show Reception

Manhattan Beach residents Sally Palm and Charles Lynn Bragg receive first place honors for their art entries in the Older Adults program exhibit. Sixty works of art are on display through Sept. 23 at Creative Arts Center. Admission is free.

Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Powell issued ribbons to winners of the second annual art show sponsored by the Older Adults Program during an opening reception last Friday at the city's Creative Arts Center. The exhibit continues through Sept. 23.

Of 90 entries from artists 55 years of age or older who are Manhattan Beach residents or enrolled in city art classes, 60 were selected for the exhibit, some from beginning artists, others from those who have returned to art after a hiatus for employment or child rearing, and some from those who have worked for a lifetime as professional artists.

Juror Nan Wollman, MFA, who holds advanced degrees in both sculpture and ceramics and teaches ceramics in MB, explained the process of selection and categories. Since there were fewer entries, this year, in photography and sculpture, those entrees were added to other categories depending upon subject, such as mixed media or landscape.
