Police 'Party Patrol' Focuses on Youth Alcohol Use

Funded by a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, police in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and El Segundo spend time enforcing local laws for minors and any related alcohol offenses.

A police "Party Patrol" on Friday, Feb. 24 netted six curfew violations, a citation for a minor possessing alcohol, two citations for minors possessing alcohol on school grounds and a report of a juvenile being intoxicated in public and resisting/delaying officers, said Sergeant Chris Vargas of the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

The Party Patrol is an enforcement program used by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and local law enforcement agencies to respond to underage drinking and deter alcohol use by minors, according to a press release. Money from an ABC grant paid for the effort, which took place in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and El Segundo.

Five curfew violations occurred in Hermosa Beach and one in El Segundo. The minors cited for alcohol possession were located in El Segundo. The intoxicated youth report took place in Manhattan Beach, said Vargas.
