Friday Night 11/11/11 in MB

As any trace of the sun disappeared from the sky and stormy weather brewed, people in Manhattan Beach took time to enjoy the scenery on 11/11/11.

As evening fell along the Manhattan Beach coastline, folks were out capturing photographs of the moody sky and large surf.

Codee Stamis and three other Mira Costa High School surf team members admired the nicely shaped swells and hoped they'd get the same Saturday morning in Hermosa Beach during a high school surf contest.

If there's a substantial amount of rainfall overnight, the young surfers might have to wait yet another week for the contest to be held. It was cancelled last Saturday after rainfall pushed pollution and debris through storm drains into the ocean.

Greg Fleming of Manhattan Beach and his sons Lucas and Zachary had hoped to see the sun set over the Pacific Ocean but would have to return this weekend, said Greg, since there wasn't a visible sunset Friday night. The trio took in the sights and sounds anyway as nightfall descended.

Indeed, photographers, nature lovers, exercise enthusiasts and others enjoyed a sky and ocean in which a storm was visibly brewing. A few rain drops came and went as taxis jockeyed on Manhattan Beach Boulevard, awaiting fares.
