Boys Volleyball 6th in ESPN Poll

The national poll puts Mira Costa behind No. 1 Loyola, a huge rival. CIF coaches poll lists team as No. 3, for now, behind Loyola and Servite, No. 1 and 2, respectively. MCHS team takes on Newport Harbor Tuesday 6 p.m. at Newport Harbor.

Just one match into the Bay League boys volleyball season, the Mira Costa High boys volleyball team is ranked No. 6 in week one of the 2012 Powerade Fab 50.

According to ESPN, the team is 6-2. Reads the comment about the MCHS team: "Mira Costa is never short of talent thanks to its perennial pipeline, but it will miss starting outside hitter and USC commit Chris Orenic, who is out with a broken hand for eight weeks." 

Said coach Mike Ninnis of the match at Newport Harbor, "It has traditionally been a tough gym to play in, but I feel that if our squad executes well and stays focused throughout the match that we will leave with a victory.

"As for Chris, we expect him back at the end of April at the earliest. He suffered the injury in November, and it flared up again at the beginning of our season."

In the March 19, 2012 CIF-Southern Section–Ford Championships Top 10 coaches poll, MCHS comes in at No. 3, just behind rival Loyola and Servite, respectively.
