Easy Playoff Win for Mira Costa Volleyball

Regional CIF competition puts the team in Division II and the boys take a quick victory at home against Cathedral Tuesday night, 25-9, 25-12, 25-13. Next year's starters, now juniors, get playing time.

The Mira Costa High boys volleyball team quickly disposed of visitors Cathedral High, 25-9, 25-12, 25-13, in the first round of CIF Southern Section Division II Regional competition Tuesday night.

Last Saturday, the Mustangs took down the ESPN Powerade Fab 50 No. 1 nationwide ranked Loyola High team to win the CIF Southern Section Division I championship. Loyola is now playing in the Division I regional playoff bracket.

According to coach Mike Ninnis, the regional playoff divisions are determined by the size of the school and Mira Costa's population is just short of the Division I cutoff for this year.
