Mira Costa Spirit Squad Helps 'Stomp Out Cancer'

The students are on stage Thursday for a benefit that supports the fight against cancer.

The Mira Costa Spirit Squad will open the "Girls Night Out" fundraiser at The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach Thursday night after doing so the previous two nights, said Monique Johnson, spirit squad community outreach chairperson.

The evening entertainment programs benefit the Cancer Support Community's Redondo Beach location, and are designed to raise awareness and funds to help the CSC continue to provide free services to cancer survivors and their family members, she said.

The cheerleaders and songleaders will perform two cheers: “Stomp out Cancer” and “Hermosa Women Strut” coupled with a dance routine to Beyonce’s “Girls Rule the World.”

As part of its community outreach during Cancer Awareness Month, the Spirit Squad will offer a 50/50 raffle at the Mira Costa varsity football game on Oct. 26, from which all proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
