SoundArts Students Brighten Holidays

"A Holiday Winter With No Strings Attached" takes the stage for final performances Wednesday in Grand View Elementary's performing arts center. Students from 2nd to 5th grade will bring to life a multi-cultural experience.

The joy of the holiday spirit is captured in Grand View Elementary School's SoundArts program's "A Winter Holiday with No Strings," on stage Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 9:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. for free in the school's performing arts center at 2617 Bell Ave., Manhattan Beach.

Staged by students in second through fifth grade who enroll in the after-school program, the multi-cultural musical is a funny and heartwarming adaptation of the classic Pinocchio story, adapted by SoundArts director and Manhattan Beach resident Laurie Draper.

Puppets, animals, toys and games come to life to share the holiday spirit, the importance of going to school and, most of all, the importance of the love of family and friends.

Music is by John Jacobsen, Roger Emerson, John Higgins, and Ruth Elaine Schraum, and the cast sings "Joy to the World," "Siyahamba," "Lotsa Latkes," "Innkeeper," "La Fiesta," "One Star" and "Ya Gotta Have Hope."

The SoundArts program embraces the philosophy of giving every child the opportunity to experience music and performance. About 90 Grand View students participate in SoundArts, according to school principal Rhonda Steinberg.
