MCHS Teachers Get Their Dance On

Students choreograph dances for Mira Costa teachers in first-time competition. Hip hop, Bollywood, 70s dances and more. The fun's all here.

Tell the stars to move over, because Mira Costa High School teachers are here to dance.

Mira Costa debuted its "Dancing with the Teachers" competition Thursday evening. Dance instructor Yvonne Johnson helped hash the show that tests the dance floor prowess of Costa teachers. Acts were choreographed by students and underwent the scrutiny of a three-judge panel.

Most importantly, the competition offered the chance for teachers and students to bond in a nontraditional way, Johnson said.

"My favorite part about tonight was the fact that we got to see the teachers in a more comical element as opposed to a serious school setting," said sophomore Gabby Wolf.

Johnson intends to put on the show annually, especially after Thursday's lively reception.
