Japan's Little League World Series championship team will be in El Segundo for the Beach City Spring Classic Tournament March 28-30, it was announced today.

Team Kitasuna -- the two-time champs are returning for their third consecutive year -- and seven Southern California teams will compete in the tournament for Little Leaguers 12 and younger at El Segundo's Recreation Park, 401 Sheldon St.

The seven SoCal teams are:

  • Beach City Prospects of El Segundo
  • El Segundo
  • Encino All Stars
  • LA Grand Slams of Torrance
  • Manhattan Beach Heaters
  • Redondo Beach Samurai
  • South Bay Surf of Torrance

"Three years ago, we were privileged to able to support the Kitasuna Academy after the devastating earthquake in Japan by sponsoring a team trip and hosting the staff, chaperones and players here in Los Angeles," said Richard Murad, the founder of Beach City Baseball Academy.

"Through the generosity of members of the Beach City Baseball family who have agreed to open their homes once again, we are able to continue this tradition."

Beach City Baseball Academy in El Segundo, 430 E. Grand Ave., includes batting cages, offering custom pitch technology, a fitness center and a 12,000- square-foot outdoor regulation Little League practice infield.
