The Manhattan Beach advanced Staypuft Dodgeball League started its season in a flurry of flying balls Tuesday night at the Marine Avenue AdventurePlex, as two co-ed teams tried to eliminate one another from the court.

"The hardest thing about dodgeball," said player and referee Alieh Zamany, "is not being able to say no to going out afterwards and going to work the next day with, like, three or four hours of sleep."

The advanced league plays each Tuesday at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. After the second session, the group heads down to Pockets sports bar for drinks and pool. Monday nights are reserved for recreational players.
