Surf Still Pretty Small

Grab a log and hit the smallish waves. Tide goes negative 0.5 at 1:19 p.m.

Waking up with the waves on Monday, I'm Surf Junkie Jeff with your Manhattan Beach Patch surf report. Well, many spots in this neck of the woods are starting off fairly small and weak due to the lack of swell and early morning high tide.

We're seeing some nice and clean conditions early on, with a combination of mostly south southwesterly energy and some minor leftover west northwest swell. That recipe is making for some soft sectiony lines, with a few fun shoulders. You'll most likely want to get out a log or a fish!

Most spots in Manhattan Beach are running about ankle to thigh high, with those top combo breaks pulling waist high waves, with maybe a plus set.

At 6:16 this morning the tide pushed up to a 5.3 high, which will have many spots pretty swamped or even shutoff early on. The tide then drains out to a negative 0.5 low at 1:19 this afternoon, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

If you're planning on paddling, throw on at least the 3/2 fullsuit or a 4/3 and possibly the booties, with the water temperature averaging between 56 and 57 degrees.

FYI...County Health Officials urge surfers and swimmers to stay out of the water after a rain for at least 72 hours, especially near river mouths, harbor entrances and storm drains.
