The View From MB: Surf, Sand, Sun, Sea

Beach lovers take to the coast in summer, paddling, surfing, rowing, swimming, running, hanging out. Here are some photos taken in Manhattan Beach and beyond.

There's no place like Manhattan Beach in the summer. Yes, companion beach cities Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach are fun but where else besides MB can you go to soak up the sunshine, grab a bite at the end of the pier, visit The Roundhouse Sea Lab and Aquarium, watch or play beach volleyball, and paddle, surf, swim or play in the ocean!

This View from MB photo essay has been taken by Manhattan Beach resident Nick Terry, who hung out for some photographic shots at the July 9 Junior Lifeguard championship portion of the Hennessey's Taverns-sponsored United States SUP and Paddleboard Championships competition at Torrance Beach. Said Terry, "It was sketchy to let them [the junior lifeguards] paddle out, so the lifeguards ferried most of the boards out and the kids did a water start."

Terry followed up those incredible shots by capturing, with a longtime surfing buddy, California Beach Volleyball Association action last Sunday on the sand at Rosecrans Avenue in the morning.
