It's time for hitting he beach to watch volleyball competition! Plus a pier to pier walk, triathlon and more—we've got the best bets for your weekend ahead.

Where/When: , 1 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach; June 11, 7 a.m.

Why Go: Rise and shine with a four-mile walk/run from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Late registration is available on race day starting at 6 a.m.

MIKE COOK MARINE STREET MIXED VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT 

Where/When: Beach volleyball courts are one block north of Marine Street between 23rd and 25th streets, Manhattan Beach; June 11, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Why Go: Watch dads and daughters and men and women play co-ed volleyball in this well-known tournament, re-named in 2007 for event founder Mike Cook, who began the tournaments in 1968 and served as event organizer until 2000.

Where/When: , 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach; June 11, 10:30 a.m.

Why Go: Recycle your gently used children’s clothing, enjoy Adventureplex with the family, and take home summer essentials for the kids! Leftover clothing goes to charity.

Pricing: $5 plus clothing to swap

 

Where/When: , 309 Esplanade, Redondo Beach; June 12, 7:30 a.m.

Why Go: Do you have what it takes? The 2011 Triathlon features a half-mile ocean swim, six-mile bike ride and two-mile scenic run. Whew! Commemorative awards will be given to the top three participants in each division.

AAU BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Where/When: On the beach near the pier, Manhattan Beach; June 12, 9 a.m.

Why Go: Check out some young beach volleyball athletes scoring some kills.

HANNAH MCDERMOTT CLASSICAL VOCAL RECITAL

Where/When: Trinity Lutheran Church,  1001 N Rowell Ave., Manhattan Beach; June 12, 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Why Go: This Mira Costa High School senior has been honored with the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Award for Classical Voice and also won Classical Singer Magazines' National High School Competition. She will be attending The Juilliard School in New York in the fall.
