Celebrate National Zoo and Aquarium Month in Manhattan Beach

Visit your local Manhattan Beach aquarium with your kids in June for fun—and learning—under the sea.

Summer is the best time of year to catch a glimpse of sea horses and sharks up close and personal—and you don't even have to leave Manhattan Beach or get wet to see them. 

June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month, when you can learn about wildlife and sea creatures close to your home—and many times for free or for a small donation in the South Bay.

Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab & Aquarium | Manhattan Beach
One of the landmarks of Manhattan Beach, the roundhouse aquarium sits at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier and features tanks with a range of local marine life including sharks, eels and sea horses.
  • Location: End of Manhattan Beach Pier
  • Hours: M-F: 3 p.m. - Sunset | Sa-Sun: 10 a.m. - Sunset
  • Price: Free, $2 donation requested per person or $5 per family
SEA Lab | Redondo Beach
Run by the L.A. Conservation Corps, Redondo's SEA Lab offers a hands-on marine science center in the heart of Redondo Beach and helps educate visitors and school children about local marine life. Visitors have a chance to feed the aquarium's fish every Saturday at noon for $2 per tray of food. Hands-on tours are also offered at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

  • Hours: Tu-Fri: 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. | Sa: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Price: Free, $2 donation suggested per person or $4 per family
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium | San Pedro
Boasting the largest collection of Southern California marine life in the world, this free aquarium is one of the largest in Los Angeles County and features a range of sea creatures from jelly fish to sharks.
  • Location: 3720 Stephen M. White Drive, San Pedro
  • Hours: Tu-Fri: Noon - 5 p.m. | Sa-Sun: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Price: Free, $5 donation per adult and $1 per child suggested
