On Tuesday, December 17, 2013, Mayor Pro Tem Amy Thomas Howorth became the ninth female mayor in the 101 year history of the City of Manhattan Beach.  As is the custom, Councilmembers take turns serving as Mayor.  Mayor Howorth was first elected to the Manhattan Beach City Council in 2011 and has been the Mayor Pro Tem for the past nine months.  She will serve as Mayor until September, 2014.

During her term, Mayor Howorth plans to focus on selecting a new city manager, economic development, and facility improvement.

“Manhattan Beach is a special place with our iconic pier and beautiful beaches; nationally recognized public schools; and our incredible residents. I look forward to working with my City Council colleagues on behalf of all the residents to keep our small town charm while embracing the future,” commented Mayor Howorth.  “There’s no better place to raise a family, vacation, or work.”

The City Council selected Councilmember Wayne Powell to serve as the Mayor Pro Tem.
