Older Adult Health Fair
 Friday, May 16, 2014

Manhattan Beach, CA  — Older adults (50 years and over) are invited to attend the 36th annual Manhattan Beach Older Adult Health Fair at Joslyn Community Center (1601 Valley Drive, Manhattan Beach) on Friday, May 16, 8:30 AM to 12 noon. 

Older adults who want to take charge of their health will be provided with an array of free or low cost medical services and the opportunity to learn about local services and programs.

The Doppler test will be provided for $20, which screens for strokes, and requires pre-registration. Please call (310) 802-6177 ext. 1112 to pre-register.

No-cost medical screenings provided will include: acupuncture, anemia, blood pressure, body fat analysis, bone density, chiropractic, cholesterol, dermatology, hearing, glucose, lung capacity, oral cancer, pharmacy, podiatry, sleep apnea, and vision.  Health Fair attendees are also encouraged to bring a bag with all their prescription and over-the-counter medications for the pharmacist to review for any possible drug interactions.

The event is sponsored by the City of Manhattan Beach, South Bay Family Health Care, the Kiwanis, and Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach.

Community resource information booths will provide material about nutrition, Dial-A-Ride, Beach Cities Health District, South Bay Family Health Care, volunteer programs, and services for older adults.  Local health and service providers will also staff interactive booths with details of services they offer to older adults.

South Bay older adults are encouraged to participate in this admission-free health screening event.  Transportation for older adults residing in Manhattan Beach will be provided for individuals who call Dial-A-Ride at (310) 545-3500.  For more information call the Manhattan Beach Older Adults Program at (310) 802-5447.
