Expert Addresses Disaster Preparedness

The South Bay Show on Blog Talk Radio continues its disaster preparedness theme Friday at 7 a.m. with featured guest Laura Walters, community services representative for Division One of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Walters, who has been with the fire service for 12 years and is an emergency medical technician and Community Emergency Response Team instructor,discuss her work and answer questions listeners call in with.

According to George Butts, one of the show's producers and president of the Manhattan Beach CERT Association, Walters' skills keep her on the move around the country: she was on site in the Gulf Coast assisting after Hurricane Katrina; she was in Galveston, TX after Hurricane Ike, and in Joplin, MI after a tornado ripped through and destroyed that town.

Walters has also worked with residents and city officials during devastating brush fires in L.A. County. She is part of L.A. County fire's incident management team and works as a liaison at hospitals for trauma patients flown in from Catalina Island.
