Lots Going On in MB This Weekend

Catch a romantic, fun evening with singer Dennis McNeil, meet Harmony, the stolen deaf puppy, hear about how AA began, celebrate an artist, and learn how to download books: All this is happening this weekend!

He's also performed with Lionel Ritchie, Bruce Hornsby, The Grateful Dead, Merv Griffin, Michael Feinstein, Condoleezza Rice, Kiri Te Kanawa, and Steve Miller. 'BILL W. AND DR. BOB'

Where and when: Manhattan Beach Community Church Community Hall Theater, 303 S. Peck Ave., Manhattan Beach; Friday, Saturday, 8 p.m., Sunday, 4 p.m.

Why go: This staged reading highlights how Bill W. and Dr. Bob overcame personal challenges and started the Alcoholics Anonymous program. 

Price: Donations requested for South Bay Chapter of AA and local MBCC charities.

 

THE LOVEJOY FOUNDATION ADOPTION EVENT: MEET HARMONY

Where and when: Church of Christ, 1063 Aviation Blvd., Hermosa Beach; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why go: Harmony, the deaf puppy stolen from her owner's car in the Manhattan Village parking lot on Dec. 27, will make an appearance sometime during the day to thank all who've supported her, as well as for hugs and kisses. Harmony was found in Lennox and returned to her owners.

"We will be bringing Harmony to the lovejoy adoption site in Hermosa Beach this saturday for those of you who want to come by and give her welcome home hugs!"

EBOOK AND AUDIOBOOK DOWNLOADING DEMONSTRATION

Where and when: Manhattan Beach Public Library, 1320 Highland Ave., Manhattan Beach; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Why go: Get your digital life going by learning how to download free eBooks and audiobooks from the library's downloadable collection. There will be demonstrations of downloading to: Kindle and Kindle Apps, Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony eReader, Kobo, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android tablets and phones.

'SHADOWS'

Where and when: 811 John St., Manhattan Beach; Friday, 6 p.m.

Why go: Arts Manhattan, a nonprofit organization devoted to making art accessible to everyone, is holding a cocktail reception, artist talk and dinner reception in honor of South African-born artist Myrna Katz
