John Post Moving, Fancy Chocolates, Rock'N Fish, Skechers

If you'd like to volunteer to help look at a merger of MB's Mayor's Youth Council and Leadership Manhattan Beach, send an email or attend a meeting Monday night at Portia and Andy Cohen's home.

1. The famous Manhattan Beach photographer John Post is holding a moving sale through Wednesday, Feb. 15. The reason behind the sale: Post is moving his store to smaller digs across the street from his current location at 809 Manhattan Avenue in downtown MB. Apparently the building that currently houses the has been sold and will be torn down, according to Post staff. Post will stay in downtown MB, opening across the street from the 809 address. 

2. Former MB City Council member and Mayor's Youth Council developer Portia Cohen and her husband Andy will open their home Monday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. to individuals interested in volunteering to look at merging the MYC with Leadership Manhattan Beach. MYC, in its inaugural session, is a program that brings together teenagers and community leaders through monthly meetings. The MYC's aim is to complement teenagers' academic studies while exposing them to community leaders in public, private and philathropic organizations to learn and study how to become community leaders and civic stewards. RSVP to Kathleen Terry if you're interested in learning more about how you can play a leadership role in this potential merger.

3. Pick up some special indulgent chocolate from  Tuesday at the Manhattan Beach Farmers Market, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, in downtown MB. Owner and chocolate maker Jeffray Gardner frequently begins his work day at his Redondo Beach factory as early as 4 a.m., depending on the day's creations. He prides himself in creating products that use only the finest ingredients and doesn't use fillers or preservatives.

4. Mike Zislis'  held a grand opening last Tuesday to celebrate its remodel. The restaurant had closed during the holidays to accommodate its renovation. Zislis has another Rock'N Fish at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles near Staples Center. He is also the owner of with its Zinc lounge and Skydeck, Mucho Ultima Mexicana and The Strand House restaurant and bar, all in downtown Manhattan Beach. 

5. Ever since its Super Bowl ad with Mr. Quiggly ran last Sunday during the championship NFL game, Skechers' Facebook page has been full of photos of dogs in Manhattan Beach, where Skechers corporate offices and flagship retail store are located, wearing Mr. Quiggly's red racing shirt emblazoned with "Skechers," "Go Run" and "3". Indeed, Mr. Quiggly, the French bulldog in the ad who beats out greyhounds, has a fan club on Facebook, too. Check out the many pooches who've donned the shirt for their 15 minutes of fame.
