What's Up: Manhappenings Registration Begins, Costa Hoopsters at Staples Center, City Selects 9th Female Mayor, Recycle Old Hoiday Lights

All it takes to recycle old holiday lights for free is a phone call.

Here are five things for your Monday and beyond:

  1. Catch the Mira Costa High School boys basketball team in action against Torrance High at Staples Center Thursday at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $25 each and include a ticket for the Clippers vs. Magic Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Details here.
  2. Online registration begins Monday at 6 a.m. for classes, programs and activities listed in the Winter 2014 Manhappenings guide offered by the city. Printed guides won't be in the mail to homes until the week of Jan. 5. Register for classes online here in the meantime. Click here to see the PDF of the guide. More detailed information on registration methods, policies, and contacts can be viewed on this webpage.
  3. Get "Patched In" to receive alerts on breaking news as it happens in Manhattan Beach. Make sure you are signed up to get our emails. Click on the 'get the daily newsletter' at the top, right corner of this page. (If you see something that says, "hi, username," then you're already registered. In that case, click on "email settings" under the drop-down tab under your name.)
  4. Manhattan Beach got its ninth female mayor when Amy Howorth was elected by fellow City Council members to take her turn at the helm. Details here.
