<p>Mira Costa High School is a four-year public high school that opened its doors in 1950. "Home of the Mustangs," it is the only high school in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District. Green and gold are the school's colors.</p>
<p>Ranked 214th on MSNBC's "Best 1000 High Schools" in the U.S., the class of 2009 averaged the following SAT scores: Critical Reading 580; Math 603; Writing 597.</p> <p>The school is located on the corner of Peck Street and Artesia Boulevard in Manhattan Beach. Because of its location near the border with neighboring Hermosa Beach, the Mira Costa student body is made up of residents from both communities. It also serves students by permit from surrounding areas.</p> <p>While the majority of students are white (68%), the next largest ethnic groups represented on campus are Hispanics (7%) and Asians (6%), followed by African Americans (2%).</p> <p>The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges for a six-year term through spring 2015.</p> <p>Both the Mira Costa campus and members of the school's sports teams have made several cameos in popular films and TV shows over the years, including "The OC," "CSI: Miami" and "Hannah Montana."</p>
