henny bogan April 23, 2014 at 07:28 pm
If someone broke into my home and I was waiting in ambush and they were armed they would be shot. IRead More would not shoot unarmed people and then finish them off. If I did shoot them because I did not know if they were armed or not I certainly would not walk up the the wounded and execute them. It is obvious after reading about the case they were dumb teenagers not career burglars. They were not even armed.
Pat Kittle April 23, 2014 at 07:43 pm
"henny bogan" -- if someone is mortally wounded and suffering horribly would you take themRead More out their misery? Whether that was the motive in this case or not, would you? BTW, it's hard to know how much grief chronic burglars caused this guy to make him so frustrated. Burglars can thoroughly trash your place, screw up your life, & deprive you of a lot you've worked a long time for. To have that happen time after time after time? I'm an exceptionally forgiving & saintly type myself, but I don't presume to know the intense frustration this guy must have felt.

From the sound of things, there may be more deaths as a RESULT of this case than the two we alreadyRead More have.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

I thought there was already a department called "Child Protective Services." Hmm are theyRead More disbanding this inept group after they prosecute all the criminal activity of neglect and disregard amongst themselves and starting a new "get it right" group. Naw didn't think so. Just another way gov't will fleece the public by adding another tier of bureaucracy that will take years to evolve where they'll once again tell you and me they're still earning from their mistakes. My answer: No. Fire the inept. Prosecute those who committed criminal acts within their job; hold the rest accountable to protect those they are chartered to protect

DCFS- the Department of Children and Family Services. The department has lots of issues- but at theRead More same time there are a lot of hard workers who care deeply about what they do. The department administration needs to better support the workers so they CAN do their jobs. The challenge lies in changing the way the department is run- more case workers will help immensely- that will be implemented by Fall. But the case workers need to be trained in organizational skills (filing etc.- sounds mundane but critical when you do not want children to get lost in the shuffle).

I believe it is time for action, not further study. It is time for respect, not dismissiveness.Read More The Commission unanimously concluded that a "State of Emergency" exists in the current child protection system. Reform will only take as long or as little time as 3 votes on the Board of Supervisors decide it will take. If elected to serve the 3rd District, I will implement the recommendations made by the Blue Ribbon task force, and not ask for yet another study. The report uncovers the fact that 4 months have transpired since the Commission issued its interim recommendation which everyone agreed was both urgent and able to be implemented with current resources - - - the recommendation that medical screening exams should be performed on detained children under the age of one. (see p. 12) How could the Board fail to act at least on this one simple recommendation? LA County Supervisors can use their discretionary funds to implement the hiring of a Child Welfare Chief/Czar before more innocent children become the next victims. LA County voters will be given the opportunity to vote for 2 new Supervisors in the June primary and in November this year. I hope and pray that the newly elected Supervisors will make protecting children a priority.

The rain barrels are made from "plastic REUSED food grade barrels." They can be recycledRead More again. Your other ideas for saving water are sound.

You have got to be kidding. The City needs to stop approving swimming pools and 11,000 square footRead More houses in the Sand Section where residents are close enough to walk to the beach. I am afraid the horse has left the barn. And BTW what rain are we catching?

It's quite sad reading comments from a group of "superior" white people as they try toRead More tear down a young man that's obviously black,,,, You folks know NOTHING about this individual other that the name he chose to use to make his comments,,, YOUR racism is all that resonates here.. and a white-gang-mentality similar to the group that beat Mr. Utash senseless weeks ago. Well Done! White people blaming black people for being black and discriminated against is likely the greatest irony of our country.
Porter gladstone April 23, 2014 at 07:39 pm
liu wei. Not sure what you mean ""not quit the same." (genius). Really? Oh IRead More thought that lacrosse and affirmative action are the same thing. I only expect people with 90 and above i.q. to understand that test scores are not the only determinants. College admission committees take into account a whole multitude of factors. People on this thread are asking for scholastic considerations only. Playing lacrosse is one factor. Being the captain another. Being the captain of a country championship team another. Being the captain of a state championship team and making all american another. growing up with a single parent --another. Growing up in a ghetto and having the character and drive to defy peer groups in order to seek out a better life another. Sure lacrosse is different than being a minority. So are the experiences that students have in more challenged environments. College admissions officers gauge the probability of success of a student, but also what diversity they may bring in order to broaden the worlds of other students. Where did you go to school Liu? Maybe you went to a school that offered online courses? Because the school that I went to considered the conversations you have in dorm rooms as much an education as going to Econ 101.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

Also on the Northville MI Parents for Educational Excellence page you can see links to the tests toRead More see how bias they are. Teachers will teach to the tests and if they are teaching something you don't like - too bad because it is on the test! *****There is also a link to the social studies standards. The social studies standards and science standards are liberal-bias, anti-American and actually just not accurate in a lot of cases. They tell our kids that they as citizens are meant to follow all the rules of the big bad government, for example. Things that made this country great and are still in existence, are few and far between - like the government is for the people and by the people and has limited powers... You wont find what the powers that be (follow the money) don't want the kids to learn. ******We all know what Hitler and many others have said about how to get to a nation and that is thru the kids minds... The proof is all there - please dig! Read the tests. ******We all WISH this was just "minimum standards"!
Tamara April 23, 2014 at 07:06 pm
IB is very anti-American, anti-Christian, etc. Please see the Northville MI Parents for EducationalRead More Excellence FB page for a few posts on IB, including a book review of the IB Theory of Knowledge (IB TOK) book - which is the basis of the program.
Susan Harris April 23, 2014 at 07:12 pm
Tamara, what social studies standards are you talking about? The Common Core only covers standardsRead More in literacy and math. There are no CC standards for science or history. Are you talking about state standards?

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! I don't believe this kid is competent enough to make those decisions. Those kids need to beRead More prosecuted to the fullest and if the does judge does not agree he needs to step down.

Sorry, Autistic boy, but there are a multitude of crimes here. These so called 'friends' abused youRead More terribly ~ called 'bullying', & that alone cannot be tolerated. Then, there is animal cruelty involved, another terrible crime, plus, harassment of all kinds, leudness, & who knows what else. These 'friends' need to be charged & made aware of the seriousness of their deeds, punished accordingly & helped through proper mental councelling.

I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Thank you lucky stars kid!
