Steven Robles: Encounter with Shark Not His First Time in Peril at Sea
The long-distance swimmer was hospitalized last year after swimming from Catalina Island to Rancho Palos Verdes.
Steven Robles' much publicized encounter with a juvenile great white shark Saturday morning in Manhattan Beach wasn't the first time the long distance swimmer faced peril in the ocean.
About Saturday's attack, Robles told ABC News the Peninsula-based real estate broker went "eyeball to eyeball" with the 7-foot beast, reportedly agitated after being hooked up on a fisherman's line for at least a half-hour.
"It was the most frightening thing I ever -- anyone could ever experience," he said.
And that's saying a lot for the swimmer, who only last year, made a trek from Catalina Island to Rancho Palos Verdes ... without a boat.
It was a 13-hour swim that landed him in the hospital with hypothermia and a mild heart attack, reports The Daily Breeze.
Robles said told ABC he's thanking God for a second chance after the shark bites, but we think it's a third chance.
